Created by the American Veterinary Medical Association, National Pet Dental Health Month is celebrated every February. It was created to highlight how important oral health is to the overall health, happiness, and wellbeing of your pet. The AVMA reports that approximately 80% of dogs and 70% of cats have some kind of oral disease by the age of 3. Yet, only about 1% of pet owners brush their pets’ teeth. Now, as a pet owner myself, I know how difficult it can be to brush an animal’s teeth! However, it is still strongly encouraged to get the toothbrush in there and do the best you can on a regular basis. Remember to always use a toothpaste that is specially made for pets too. Be sure to ask your veterinarian if you have any questions about the oral health of your pet. Happy Brushing!
